Current Needs

Our names are Chuck and Marilyn. We'd like to tell you about our lives and the four children we have at home. In the picture you can see Markus, 20 yrs, in the grey shirt. Matthew, 19 yrs, in front in his wheel chair, is in a black t-shirt shirt, and Yakira, 17 yrs., in the blue shirt. Bryan, age 11 yrs, is in a black shirt. Our granddaughter, who was visiting at the time, is also in the picture.

Chuck was in foster care since the age of three. His sister was raised in another foster home and his brother was adopted by their grandmother.

I was placed for adoption at the age of 9 months as an "open adoption" but I didn't know that until I was 8-years-old.

I was a single mom of a 5 month-old daughter, when I met Chuck. We were married that fall and he adopted her. We then had four more children together - 3 daughters and 1 son.

When the youngest was ten years old, we decided that we wanted to adopt special needs children. Our first was Adam, who was six weeks old when we adopted him in 1981.  He is now 29 years old. He and his girlfriend have a son and a daughter and live in VA.

Our next adoption was Jenny who was placed at 4 days old. She is biracial and American Indian. She is 28 years old and has a daughter who is 6 years old and a daughter who is 2 years old. She is attending college, working and taking care of her children, and she also lives close to us and we spend a lot of time together.

Next was Scott, placed at 18 months of age from Latin America. His special need is his learning disability. He is now 27 years old, and he also lives near here.

Tim was placed in our home at 3 days of age. He is biracial. He is now 26 years old and has finished college. He is a single father, just got hired for a great job, he also lives close and we spend a lot of time together.

We were then blessed with twin girls, placed at 17 months old. They are biracial and are crack cocaine babies, but both are most of the time on the honor roll. Kaity and Kelsey are soon to be 23 years old and in their forth year of college. They come home when they can. Kelsey also is a single mom; her daughter is 3 years old and she is living with her mom.

Then Chris and Markus, with their older brother, Jon, came home to us. Jon was 7 years old and is now 26. He now lives in California with his family.

Chris, who was 2 when placed in our family, is 20. He is Caucasian and has learning difficulties because his mother abused drugs.

Markus, who was one year old when placed with our family, is Caucasian and is very much like a "Downs" child because of the drugs his mother used. He is now 19 years old and in 11th grade. Markus loves soccer and is now learning more life skills in the work field.

Next is our Matthew who was placed at one month and is 18 years old. He is Caucasian and will always be a total care child. His birthmother used every drug there was the entire pregnancy and even while in labor, but he is such a joy.

Yakira was born at 23 weeks gestation weighing 1 lb. 5 oz. and only 12 inches long. She had a grade 3 bleed and open-heart surgery. She is full African American and is now 16 years old and in the 9th grade. She loves everything about life and is always singing and dancing and is doing great in every other way. She just lettered in track on the varsity team in her freshman year.

Bryan came into our lives in March of 2003 through a disruption with his adopted family. We adopted him June 19, 2003. Bryan has some delays due to the abuse he suffered in his adopted home. Bryan is a busy but joyful child who just turned 10 years old and in 4th grade. He came from Russia at the age of 10 months.

We had a little boy from CHASK on guardianship while his mom was in prison. His name is Joseph. He had no working kidneys, and was on dialysis for 12 hours a day at home. He passed away Feb.15, 2009 at the age of 2 1/2 yrs old, because they couldn't find a kidney match fast enough. We miss him so much and still keep in touch with his birth family.

We have an eight-bedroom home on 10 acres of land. We love to go walking, visiting the rest of our family, and going to amusement parks and zoos. Our home was built by an Amish family in 1990 and they had 15 children.

Where we live is only 10 minutes from an Amish country; when we go to the store we get to see the buggies.

We love working in our gardens (flower and vegetables) and we designed a butterfly garden in memory of Joey.

We get such joy and so many blessing from all of our children and grandchildren. We are praying that our Lord will guide us and place another child in our care. We feel we have so much to offer with all the love and encouragement that we can share. Our prayers are with you in your decision. We have six children’s hospitals in our area that deal with many medical conditions.
