Ricky works as a lead mechanic for a major airline and is also a certified heating and air conditioning specialist. He has worked for this same airline for about 25 years, after serving in the US Air Force, where he received his early training. Lynn is a licensed veterinarian, but retired before the birth of their third child to be a full time mom. We have 4 children, from 5 to 10 years old. Our oldest child is quiet, sweet and kind. Our second oldest is a fireball of energy and loves science. Our son loves everything that goes- he is currently very interested on remote-controlled planes and rockets. Our youngest is a sweetie with a big imagination. They are all excited about the prospect of possibly having a baby to cherish and having more children to play with and love. Our children LOVE learning and playing on our 12 acres, close to Lynn’s family and the large farm where she grew up. We have a sweet geriatric horse, pet goats, pet chickens (we don’t eat the chickens, but we sure do eat lots of eggs!) that the children show in the local fair, outside dogs, and one visually impaired rescue cat. The children have raised beds where they can grow flowers and a few organic vegetables and have a fairy garden with little houses and Matchbox cars and construction equipment mixed in! We homeschool and love having the children here with us. Even in our fairly rural area, there are homeschool groups and co-ops and fun things to do. Ricky and I both are creative and encourage our children to try out different arts and crafts, like woodworking, painting and drawing, and sewing. Music is fun for us – everybody in the family plays at least one instrument! We have been blessed with a retired college professor nearby who gives piano lessons and is a good family friend, and the kids that are interested take guitar, ukulele, and violin lessons. We also swim and play outside year round, on the swing set and trampoline and just exploring nature. We watch very little TV, only a few dvds and a few children’s shows on Netflix, like Veggie Tales, Blue’s Clues, Peep and The Big Wide World, and Curious George. What else: we have lots of books, Legos, train toys, dolls and tea party stuff, doll houses, stuffed animals, craft and science kits…..it is busy and fun here and a little crazy sometimes!
Our Desire to Adopt:
We are far from perfect, but we do our best as parents. Growing up, Ricky and Lynn both had dreams of being parents and of having a big happy family, and we have been blessed to realize that dream together. We have researched adoption for several years now and we totally feel called to adopt those with special needs. There are so many reasons, but the first (and by far the most important) that comes to mind is that we feel called by God. People with special needs are precious to Him, and they are precious to us, as well. We love children, and we truly enjoy our family. We don’t go out without our children, we don’t have hobbies that can’t include them, and our family is our world. We want to include others in our little loving circle. We can’t imagine NOT caring for others. Because Lynn is a veterinarian, medical issues and daily care don’t seem too scary to us, and it would be a privilege to use our gifts in caring for others to care for children with special needs. We will research and tackle whatever medical needs arise. We homeschool for many reasons, and we will always be willing to tailor each child’s education to that child. Homeschool is also not a burden to us, but it is a fun adventure that we get to experience together! We don’t have to worry about bullies and our children get a homemade breakfast and lunch every day. We feel especially called to those who are blind, hearing impaired, have facial differences, speech delays, or have learning differences, and we do have a current homestudy.
We believe that Jesus in the risen Savior, a part of the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. We believe that He willingly gave his life on the cross so that our sins could be forgiven, was resurrected on the third day, and He sits at the right hand of God today, as the bible tells us. We know that the Holy Spirit resides in our hearts, as both of us (parents) have received Christ as our Savior, and our two oldest daughters have, as well. We believe that we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus on this earth and that He will guide us and help us as we go about his calling. He is Love, and every good thing comes from Him, including the children He has entrusted to us and those He may bless us with in the future. We also believe that God made man in His image – ALL people, and we are all brothers and sisters. We are aware of and thankful for God’s many blessings in our lives.
Dear Birth Mom/Parents,
Thank you for reading our bio and for considering entrusting us with your precious child. It’s hard to find the right words to express how thankful we are to you, that you are choosing life for your child. Please know that we love you and are praying for you!
If you are a parent considering disruption, we have followed both international and domestic adoption long enough to know that you are making a very difficult, heart-wrenching, decision and we would never judge you in any way.
Thank you again for reading, Lynn and Ricky Spivey
