For Birth Parents
|
Adoption Contacts - Confidential to Very Open Basically there are two types of contact situations between birth parents and adoptive families. Confidential or Closed - The birth parents and adoptive parents never know each other at all. Adoptive parents are given background information such as nationality, health, medical issues, of both birth mom and dad. This information is limited (but may include more) to what will be needed to help the adoptive families take care of the baby. Open: Least Informational - Birth parents can read about several possible adoptive families and then choose which one they would like to parent their baby. Names and residence address or phone number is not exchanged. Partial Information - Birth parents and adoptive parents speak on the phone and exchange names. A little more open - Meeting between the birth parents and adoptive families, usually arranged by agency, attorney, social worker or pastor. Can take place where ever both parties are agreed upon. Very open - Birth parents and adoptive families share names, addresses, phone numbers, and stay in contact with each other over the years. There may be visits, calling, writing and pictures.
