Currently our family is made up of the three of us! We adopted our son this past year and look forward to seeing how our family will grow even more through adoption. Both of us have always had a special place in our hearts for people who have special needs. We both also have experienced the joys and struggles of working with children and youth who have special needs.
Our Desire to Adopt:
We desire to adopt children with special needs because we believe that everyone needs a solid family unit in order to grow to their fullest potential.
We believe that God created the world and when sin entered the world, we needed a way to have relationship with God. God provided his son as a perfect sacrifice. He came to earth as a human, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross for our sins. Christ raised from the dead three days later proving his victory over death. We believe that everyone can come to a saving knowledge of Christ.
Dear Birth Mom/Parents,
We are Doug and Heidi. We know you may be reading many letters much like this one so we want to thank you for taking the time to get to know us a little bit. We have a current home study and our hope in writing this letter is simply to share a glimpse of ourselves with you so that you will be able to make the very best decision for your child. We met in 2008, in late January and very quickly knew that we were in love. We eloped on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in May and enjoyed sharing the news with family and friends throughout that next week. After about a year, we decided it was time to start planning and working towards growing our family through adoption. We both agreed that our ideal family would be made up of the two of us and children who have special needs. We both have a special place in our hearts for people who have special needs so it only seems natural for us to pursue children with special needs. This dream has come true with the adoption of our son and we continue to pursue adoption. We know that Nikita will make an amazing big brother as we see him care for and play with friends on a daily basis. We live in a small town in the interior of Alaska. We are right next to the Yukon River and enjoy all the river has to offer through the year. In the fall and winter we enjoy watching the water turn to ice and while the river flows steady the rest of the year we love to go on boat trips, fish, or just build a fire and cook hot dogs while we watch the water go by. Other things we enjoy in our free time include swimming, spending time with friends, going on walks outside, and some days we just curl up in front of the TV and watch movies. Both of us work at the school here in Galena so we stay active working with teenagers each day throughout the school year. Heidi works early in the day while Doug works later in the evening. We believe that this is the perfect set up as we plan to raise our kids without depending on day care or other caregivers during the work week. We know that you are making a big decision in choosing to place your child for adoption. The main thing that we want you to know is that your child will be reminded often of the fact that you loved him or her and wanted to make the very best decision for them. We hope that you are able to find the very best family for your child and we look forward to getting to know you!
